Labels are a
part of life. You see them everywhere. Today the words “gluten free” seem to be
the rage. Many folks have an allergy to the gluten in foods and need to stay
away from it. Other labels tell us how many calories, what kind of material an
item is made of, what ethnic group someone belongs to or even what religious
affiliation. Everywhere we look we see and hear about labels.
Norm and I wear a
patch on our back with the words Christian Motorcyclists Association on it. It
is a representation of who we are as Christian motorcyclists. It is out there
for all to see. There is a Bible, a cross and praying hands in the middle of
the patch. All parts of who we are as Christians. We stress to our members to
be mindful their behavior when they have their “colors”, or patch on out in the
community. There is a saying by William
J. Toms, “Be careful how you live. You
may be the only Bible some person ever reads.” That’s a pretty humbling
thought.
Our patch is a
type of “label.” Wearing it does not make us Christians. Just because we are labeled as something,
doesn’t make it true. It’s a heart issue. Only God knows a person’s heart. Only
He can see if we’ve been saved from sin.
Nowadays we are
careful how we ask people about their relationship with Christ. We don’t ask
them anymore if they are Christians. We ask do they know the Lord as their
Savior and Lord? That is the relationship we are to have with him. Anyone can
say they are a Christian, but to be one we have to have a relationship with
Christ.
What label are you
wearing today?
Ask God to check
your heart right now and see if you are where you supposed to be. If you hear
Him saying, you’re not right, He can forgive you today, right now! Only the
Savior can set you free!
John 8:36 …so if the Son sets you free, you will be free
indeed. No more labels to worry about, just freedom in Him.
