Hot or Cold?
Revelation 3:16 So, because you
are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth
Wednesday was supposed to be a wet
and chilly day in Lake George, NY. We were going back to the vendors to get
Norm’s windshield put on and serve in the CMA booth in the afternoon. The
clouds in the sky were cloud and it was a bit chilly. When we go to the vendors
about ten, we decided to wear our rain coats and sweatshirts, and not make the same mistake as Tuesday.
After being in the vendor area for
a little while and waiting for the windshield to be installed, the rain began.
The vendor area grew sparse with people and folks left were grabbing for the
free ponchos given out by Foremost Insurance. It only rained a few minutes and
then quit, so I took my jacket off and kept my sweatshirt on.
When the bike was finished, Norm
took it back out to the parking area and I waited in the vendor area for him to
return. We started walking around some more. And, the rain began again. It was
already chilly and the rain made it worse.
It was like that all day on
Wednesday til late afternoon. It would be chilly and rainy one minute, then
warm and sunshine the next minute. You did not know what to wear from one
minute to the next.
Sometimes Christians are like the
weather here in Lake George with their spiritual lives. You see them one time
and they are on fire for the Lord, talking about what He is doing in their
lives and how He is working. You see them faithful in attending church and
other groups that would further their spiritual growth. Then something that
they have to miss a service or a group meeting and it puts them on a track in
the wrong direction. They slowly back off from attending church and the other
groups. You don’t hear them talking about spiritual things any more. They have
become lukewarm and lost their first love.
We see this in CMA, too. You see them for a
while, passionate about reaching the lost for a while. Then something
happens. They might get their feelings
or don’t get their way about something. Sometimes, they are held accountable
for a situation and they don’t like that. Or, they don’t like being under
authority and not in control. So, they stop attending meetings or events. They
find reasons why they can’t support an event or be a part. The commitment level
wanes in both cases--- the church and CMA.
It is a sad thing to watch someone slowly drift away, having allowed the
enemy to come in and get them side-tracked, having become lukewarm and losing
their passion.
Revelation 3:16 say the Lord will spew out the
lukewarm..
That does not sound good! I do understand that we all, including me,
have had “dry” times in our lives. They are going to come. However, we cannot
become lukewarm. What do we do with them? We must continue on with our
spiritual “survival skills”.
What are “spiritual survival
skills” as Nicole Eunity calls them?
Reading the Word, attending church, being in fellowship with other
believers, praying, and asking the Holy Spirit to show us what we need to learn
during this time so we can move on toward the goal—being like Christ and
winning the lost!!
